Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004

The Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004 placed a duty on local authorities to inform a carer of their entitlement to request an assessment of their needs and ability to provide care.

Local authorities could request other authorities to help in planning and delivering services to a carer assessed as needing services. Other authorities included other local authorities, local education authorities, local housing authorities and health bodies. These authorities were obliged to give due consideration to the request.
