Public Health (London) Act 1891
The Public Health (London) Act 1891 consolidated all previous legislative provisions relating to the removal of nuisances, sanitary measures and public health in London.
The Act enabled sanitary authorities to provide medical assistance to poorer citizens in their areas. Each authority was also obliged to appoint a medical officer of health, who had public health or medical qualifications to oversee public health in the area.
